Commissioner Astrue has held two Compassionate Allowance public outreach hearings. The first was on rare diseases and the second was on cancers. A third hearing on brain injuries was planned for November 18, 2008.

Thanks for this very precise list. Unfortunately, renal failure is not covered by the compassionate allowance, but I think it's only appropriate because kidney cancer is much more worse than the latter even if its more rare.

when your claim has been submitted how long does it take to actually get your benefits?
  • TomaszStasiuk · 5 months ago
In Colorado, I normally see initial decisions in 4-6 months after the application. If you are denied, it can take 6-18 months to get a hearing. Then about 45-90 days to get a decision and another 45-90 days to actually start benefits. These are just rough estimates, of course.

I have series of articles dealing with how long various steps take: http://www.socialsecurityinsider.com/tag/how-long/

    Good Luck!
